like in crow port you can't encounter any monsters when you're next to the water...

Yes, those are fishing spots, if you can fish on that map.

Yep I noticed that too. Magnilok hunting became tough.

Are the Rock Smash patches still malfunctioning? I surfed there with a rock smash monster, ran all across the rocks and didn't run into anything for 5 minutes. Was a while ago, though.

You need to stand on top of a Stone Smash rock and click on the Monster that knows Stone Smash, use the move, and see if a Monster pops. Long process, eh? Don't worry. R.A.M. is on the way.

Acacia island also has some grass locations where you can step on but no monsters will show.

was it the ram spots?

Anyways, those are water shores so no Monsters will appear there, unless, you use nets.
Same thing for Ram spots. IF there are grass patches under a ram spot, no Monsters will appear unless you of course use RAM
