He has never caught one. Friends can abadon you, he can't command them, and if I recall he got one of his "friends" killed.
The legends won't abandon Ash. Ash basically saved them and their homes :/
Ash made friends with legends because of Pikachu. Like with Deoxys, Groudon, Kyogore, and Rayquaza. All Pikachu ^_^
I don't think he's friends with the 3 birds though.

Ash will always remember Mewtwo since Ash made mewtwo understand the bonds between humans and pokemon. He risked his life and it caused sadness to both original and copies.

ash is to baws for legends ._. i mean look at him...he has every badge from all the past regions,has had all the starters(or at least most) and has evolved 1 maybe 2 of them...

he broke the sprinklers to beat brock, saved cerulean gym to get that badge, idr Lt surge's fight(think he won?) and in celedon he saved vileplume

Ash vs Lt. Surge = Ash won because of Pikachu's speed. Lt. Surge was just another dumb muscle head. Evolved his pikachu too fast, it didn't gain any speed.

Ash always bonds with legends, yet he refuses to catch any of them. Although, he's hardly able to even beat a Darkrai, so i doubt he can weaken it to catch it and spam Pokeballs. (I'd love to see this in the anime)

If you think about it, in the anime it goes against nature to actually catch a legendary since most of them are directly tied to nature in unfathomable ways.
Time is not to be commanded, best make use of what little you have, while you have it.
